Driftless Area Ag Alliance to host UMN Extension Advanced Nitrogen Smart meeting. Learn the latest techniques to optimize your nutrient management approach.
ST CHARLES, Minn. — Driftless Area Ag Alliance is partnering with the University of Minnesota Extension to host an Advanced Nitrogen Smart training event focused on manure management on March 26. This three-hour program will show farmers how to take maximum economic and fertility advantage of using manure as a fertilizer source while minimizing nitrogen loss to the environment.
The event will take place at The Garage in St. Charles, Minn., located at 361 W 5th St. Registration will start at 10:00 a.m. with the program to follow from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
The Advanced Nitrogen Smart training program is an educational opportunity presented by the University of Minnesota Extension. Extension Educator Dr. Brad Carlson and a representative from Associate Professor Dr. Melissa Wilson’s manure management and water quality lab will lead the presentation. The research-based program is part of an ongoing series of courses designed for farmers to present the fundamentals for maximizing economic return on nitrogen investments while minimizing nitrogen losses.
Upon completion of training, participants can earn three Certified Crop Advisor continuing education units: two in nutrient management and one in soil and water.
There is no cost to attend the event, but registration is required for planning purposes. If you’re interested in attending, register online by March 20. Visit driftlessareaagalliance.org or the Driftless Area Ag Alliance Facebook page for more details.
“We are thrilled to be hosting this event as a way to help inform our local farmers,” said DAAA President Rita Young of Emerald Spring Dairy. “This opportunity will be beneficial for anyone looking to optimize their manure use and reduce nitrogen loss.”
